Stanley E Metz's Obituary
Stanley Earl Metz, 90, of Decatur, passed away Friday, November 24, 2017, at St. Mary’s Hospital, surrounded by his family.
Stanley was born January 17, 1927, in Kewanee, IL, to Earl Howard and Grace (Hill) Metz. He proudly served in the United States Navy shortly after the end of WWII. He graduated from the University of Illinois with a business degree and major in accounting. While at the University of Illinois he met Martha Ann Jinkins. They married on June 25, 1950. Stanley was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church where he held many positions. He was also involved with the Habitat for Humanity, Christian Children’s Fund and the Good Samaritan Inn. Stanley was an avid reader and enjoyed refinishing furniture.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ann; three sons, Roger Metz of Spokane, WA, Greg (Jane Jansen) Metz of Arlington, VA and John (Diana) Metz of Batavia, IL; seven grandchildren, John Metz, Amanda Owens, Lauren Metz, Elizabeth Walters, Valerie Clark, Daniel Metz and Edison Metz; and one sister, Drusilla (Don) Johnson of Geneseo, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services to celebrate the life of Stanley Metz will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 29, 2017, at St. John’s Episcopal Church. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, November 28, 2017, at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Good Samaritan Inn 920 N Union St, Decatur, IL 62522.
