Stella Garnett Grissom's Obituary
Stella Garnett Grissom, 93, passed away peacefully surrounded by her daughters and son-in-law at 5:34 P.M. on Monday (02-17-2025) in Decatur, IL.
Garnett was born on February 6, 1932, in Lovington, IL, the daughter of Virgil Ellis Trader and Carrie Louvenia (Hout) Trader. She married John Grissom on July 8, 1951, in Oakland, IL. He passed away on January 16, 2025. Garnett passed away only one month after her husband John, the love of her life, to whom she had been married for 73 years.
Garnett was a member of First Christian Church and the Prime Timers group at the Macon County Farm Bureau. She was also an Executive Secretary at the Macon County Farm Bureau. Garnett was devoted to her family, loved playing cards with family, loved traveling with her sisters, and was a great cook. She was known by all for her sweet, quiet, gentle ways.
She is survived by her daughters: Barbara Riley of Magnolia Springs, AL; Sherry McBride of Tallahassee, FL; and Twila McManmie and husband Chris of Bethany, IL; grandchildren: Charity, Trisha, Melissa, Bryant, Laura Lee and fifteen great-grandchildren.
Garnett was preceded in death by her parents, husband John, one brother Sherman, and two sisters Mary and Wilma.
A Funeral will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday (02-22-2025) at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home with visitation from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home. The burial will be in Mt. Gilead Cemetery.
