Stephen T Borgman's Obituary
It is with great sorrow that we announce that Stephen Todd Borgman, age 55, of Decatur, IL passed peacefully at 12:15 pm on Thursday, March 26, 2025, at the Arcadia Care Skilled Nursing Facility in Bloomington IL.
Stephen was born on July 23, 1969, in Terre Haute Indiana to Steven D. Borgman and Beverly (Beasley) Borgman. He grew up in Terre Haute, IN, and reminisced often of his childhood, including BMX racing and boyhood shenanigans. He spoke often of hanging out with friends, including his best friend, Jeff Long. He spent a short amount of time during his high school years in Bakersfield, CA with his mother where, at that time, he was on the high school wrestling team. He won an MVP award in wrestling during his time there. He married Julie Katherine Mavec on December 19, 2020, in Morris, IL after being together for 11 years.
Stephen had stellar mechanical skills and worked as a pressman for many years at the Decatur Container box factory, moving on to a maintenance position and eventually supervisor. He moved on in his career, continuing to work in manufacturing in a variety of positions including working for Caterpillar, Barton Manufacturing as CNC machinist and eventually a manual machinist for Align Production Systems Inc. Stephen was very passionate about working as a manual machinist and loved to spend his off time learning about machining. He completed classes at Richland Community College, all surrounding his job improvement.
Stephen had many interests and hobbies, including BMX, and he loved animals. He had an affinity for cats and felt strongly about rescuing pets. He did, however, also enjoy pet snakes, lizards, hedgehogs and dogs. He has a German shepherd, Gretchen, that he was very close to and even after he became ill, would visit him in the nursing home often.
Stephen’s greatest accomplishment and impactful life event was the birth of his son, Gage Christopher. He looked forward to every visit he had with Gage and planned vacations during the summers that he was in Decatur, including amusement parks, exploring caves and visiting family. Family was very important to Stephen and he spent a lot of time visiting with his Dad and Sharon, his step-mother. He tried whenever he could to keep in touch with extended family as well, visiting in Terre Haute frequently.
He is survived by his wife, Julie of Decatur, IL; son, Gage Christopher Borgman of Faith, SD; Mother, Beverly Jean Walton of Las Vegas, NV; Mother-in-Law, Susan Hicks of Morris, IL; Half-brother, Joshua W. Long; and best friend, Donald “Jeff” Long, both of Terre Haute, IN; Step-Brother, Brian Chandler; Step-Sister, Lisa Bowman (Phil); and Step-Brother, Jack Krohn, all of Decatur, IL; Brother-in-law, Richard Mavec (Melanie) of Plainfield, IL; and Brother-in-Law, Jonathan Mavec of Marseilles, IL.
