Stephen Tyus' Obituary
Our beloved, Stephen Tyus earned his wings, transitioning from this earthly home to his Heavenly mansion in to the loving arms of the Lord on July 3, 2020, with family at his side.
Stephen was born July 8, 1960, in Decatur, IL the fourth child to Eddie and Annie L. Tyus.
He was baptized as a Catholic at an early age, attending St. Patrick’s Church and School. He also attended EHS, working as a laborer and “all-out” handyman, always ready to give advice on any repairs. Steve was able to demonstrate his love for cooking in many eateries throughout Decatur. He accepted Christ as his Savior and truly believed that life begins once in the presence of God.
Steve was a loving son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend and will forever leave a void in our hearts. He loved to “crack” jokes, had a winning smile, huge heart and was always the life of the party at any gathering. He never met a stranger, befriending so many. He was our family’s “Hallmark Greeting Card” aficionado, always remembering our special day memorializing it with a beautiful card. This we will also miss! His passion for playing the lottery was infectious!
Leaving to forever cherish his memory, sister Diane; brothers, Dion (Della),
Jerald (Jeanette), Tyrone (Angela).
Affectionately known as “Unc” by his many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great nephews as the “fun uncle” as he was always there for plenty of laughter and guidance. He will be dearly missed by them all: nieces, Dionca, Shelby (Ryan), Brittney (Darius), Katrina (Kalin); nephews, Glenn (Ashley), Jacob, Damion, Adrian (Kapora), Jerald Jr (Danielle), Tyrone Jr., Airryn; and special friend, Bill Oliver
Welcoming him at the Gates of Heaven were his parents; niece, Tobi; sister, Cathy Ann; friend, Mildred; amongst other family and friends that preceded his arrival.
The family would like to extend our gratitude to the staff at both St. Mary’s Hospital ER Dept and St. John’s ICU for caring for Stephen during his final moments. Also, a special thank- you to Dr. Dawood and staff, Davita Dialysis Wood St. A very special expression of gratitude to the residents and residential coordinators at the Belvedere Apts, Jill, Polly, Jeremy all whom accepted and loved Steve as part of their honorary family. He will miss the birds, squirrels and chess games with Polly but please know that Stevie thought the world of you all!
