Susan Kay Witzeman's Obituary
Susan Kay Witzeman, 78, of Decatur Il passed away on February 19, 2024. She was born in Springfield, Il on February 1, 1946, to Everette and Elfreda Witzeman. In Springfield she attended Hay Edwards Grade School and the First Congregational Church.
After her father passed away, Susie and her mother relocated to Decatur Il. Susie was a client at Macon County Resources for some thirty-five years, living in group homes for some of those years. Once health issues began, she became a resident at Mason Point in Sullivan, IL and then transferred to Shelbyville Rehabilitaion Center and Health Care in Shelbyville, Il.
During her life, Susie had many interests. She was an avid Cubs fan and of both U of I’s football and basketball teams. She loved to bowl and participated in Hopes Unlimitied Bowling Club. Susie was the proud recipient of many Special Olympic Medals, both regional and state. Susie was a “decorator” and loved preparing for the holidays. All flat surfaces in her room were covered with decorations and with her third passion ... stuffed animals.
Susie is survived by her sister, Barbara (Jack) McCoy, two nieces, Cathy (Marc) Smith and Kim (Doug) Brown; two nephews, John (Pam), Mike (Elizabeth), and nine grand nieces and nephews. As well numerous extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parent, grandparents and twin nephews Brian and Daniel.
We will surely miss our Susie. If you ever received one of her smiles or hugs, you were blessed. Thanks to all her caregivers throughout the years; those at Macon Resources, Mason Point, Shelbyville Rehab and Traditions Health Hospice Care. Also, a heartfelt thank you goes to her special friend Jeanette.
A visitation will be held Friday, February 23, 2024, from 11am -12 noon at First Congregational Church of Decatur, IL followed by a noon funeral service. Rev. Ryan Travis will be presiding. Memorial donation can be made to First Congregational Church of Decatur, Special Olympics or Macon County Resources.
