Sylvester "Bud" Root's Obituary
Sylvester “Bud” Root, 77, of Decatur, passed away Sunday, November 2, 2014 in his Decatur home with family by his side.
Bud was born September 17, 1937 in Decatur, Illinois the son of Daniel and Sophia (Thomas) Root of Decatur. He married Janet Lee Campbell on October 26, 1956. He served in the United States Army as a Military Policeman. He retired from ABF in 1994. Bud was best known as a fisherman with a witty sense of humor.
He is survived by his wife and two sons John (Carol) Root and James (Amy) Root. Three sisters Priscella Schmidt, Judy (Tom) Coffman of Taylorville, and Shirley (Richard) Boyd of Smithville Ohio. Six grandchildren Brittney, Justin, Jessica, JD and Andrew Root and Devin Barr. Many extended family, friends and best friend Ed Spicer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters.
A memorial service to celebrate Bud’s life will be 10 a.m. Friday, November 7, 2014 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday, November 6, 2014 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard.
