Ted R. Spence's Obituary
Theodore “Ted” R. Spence, 85, of Decatur, passed away Sunday, January 31, 2016, at McKinley Court in Decatur.
Ted was born May 18, 1930, in Kankakee to Theodore Leonard and Marie (Erzinger) Spence. He was an airplane mechanic serving in the U.S. Airforce during the Korean Conflict. He recently accompanied Jim Hopkins on the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. He married Phyllis June Jimerson on October 7, 1952, in Bloomington, IL. She passed on June 12, 1996.
Ted was a pipefitter for Plumbers and Pipefitters local 65. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
He is survived by his four children, Steven (Kathy) Spence of Decatur, David Spence of Decatur, Sheri Rowand of Smyrna, Georgia and James Spence of Decatur; six grandchildren; three brothers, Jack (Suzy) Spence of Nashville, TN, Jim (Linda) Spence of Kansas City, KS and Robert Spence of Superior, WI; one sister, Delores Johnson of Midwest City, OK; and his loving companion, Pat Anderson of Decatur.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Phyllis Spence; his two sons, Jon Laverty and Richard Spence; and one brother, Jerry Spence.
Services to celebrate the life of Ted R. Spence will be 10 a.m. Thursday, February 4, 2016, at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home before the service. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the donor’s choice.
