Terry Lynn Bobbitt's Obituary
Terry Lynn Bobbitt, 78, of Decatur, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, November 25, peacefully in his home surrounded by his family. He was born October 25, 1947, in Decatur, the son of Coy and Eloise (Morgret) Bobbitt.
Terry began his career with Caterpillar on May 23, 1966. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam era in the United States Air Force from June 1967 until June 1971. Upon returning home to Illinois, he resumed his employment with Caterpillar and remained there until his retirement in June 2015, completing a remarkable 49-year career.
Terry married Ginny Vaughn in 1966. He later married Dolly Baity in 1978. In 1987, he married Debbie Martin, who preceded him in death in 2017. Terry and Debbie shared a strong commitment to their community and were honored to serve together on the original Big Brother Big Sister Board.
Terry is survived by his children: Lori Bobbitt (Bobby) Carlson of Decatur; Greg (Cara) Bobbitt of Anderson, SC; Tracey Bobbitt Ramsey of Johnson City, TN; Debbie Bobbitt (Chris) Harrison of Decatur; Missy (Travis) Aldridge of Decatur; Chip (Tracy) Martin of Naples, FL; Bryan (Kristin) Martin of Newport Beach, CA; and Meredith (Rick) Finch of Decatur. He also leaves 25 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; his brother, Michael (Candy) Bobbitt of Decatur; his sister, Kathy (Jerry) Butler of Decatur; his step-brother Bob (Carol) Pritts of Decatur; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Debbie; his parents; his step-father, Max Pritts; his sister, Donna Brandeberry; his brother, Richard Bobbitt; his step-brothers Mike and Dan Pritts; and his great-grandson, Saylor Sanders.
Terry will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his work, his faithful service to his country, his love for the St. Louis Cardinals and Fighting Illini, and, above all, the deep love he held for his family.
Terry’s family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the nurses at Cancer Care in Decatur. Their compassion, sense of humor, and constant kindness—whether offering a warm blanket or a much-needed laugh—made the many hours spent there far more bearable. Their care will never be forgotten.
A visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. on Sunday (11-30-2025) at Lampstand Presbyterian Church Decatur, IL. The funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M. Monday (12-01-2025) at Lampstand Presbyterian Church with a graveside service to follow at Graceland Cemetery Decatur, IL.
