Tex A. Sides' Obituary
Tex Allen Sides, 74, of Blue Mound, Illinois, passed away July 20, 2024, in his home.
Tex was born in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, on January 5, 1950, the son of Arnold and Violet (King) Sides. He served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. During his time in the service, he earned a Purple Heart for injuries sustained when his convoy was blown up. He worked as a machinist for Macon Metal for 20 years before retiring. He married Patti Ayers in 1969, and she preceded him in death in 1987. He married Darline Shoemaker in 2005, and she survives. Tex was a member of the VFW. He enjoyed watching TV, working in the yard, and working on cars, especially his treasured ‘68 GTO.
Tex is survived by his wife Darline of Blue Mound; daughters Sherri (Alan) Sunderland of Blue Mound and Kristina Sides of Taylorville; stepdaughters Chrystal Shoemaker of FL and Brenda Campbell of Taylorville; brothers Roger (Nila) Sides of Stonington and Larry (Kathy) Sides of Taylorville, sister Linda (Mike) Mulikey of St. Louis, MO; grandchildren Nikki, Halie, Rachel, Patrick, and Courtney; step-grandchildren Haylee, Tyler, Keth’n, and Paton; great-grandchildren Bently, Kasin, and Ariella; step-great-grandchild Iris; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his first wife Patti, his parents, brother Ron Sides, and sister Margaret Ann Sides.
Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home is providing cremation services for Tex. A Celebration of Life will be held from 12pm to 4pm Sunday, August 11, at the Blue Mound Civic Center. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.gracelandfairlawn.com.
