Thomas A. Piekutowski, Sr.'s Obituary
Decatur-Thomas A. Piekutowski, Sr., 83, of Decatur, passed away at 3:50 p.m. Saturday, January 16, 2010 at Imboden Creek Living Center with his family by his side.
Mass of the Resurrection will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at St. James Catholic Church, 742 E. Clay St., with Father Joe Molloy, Presider. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the services at the church. Private family interment will be at Graceland Cemetery at a later date. Tom was born November 10, 1926 in Decatur at his family’s home on the Homestead Prairie Farm at Rock Springs Center the son of Joseph and Anna Piekutowski. He graduated from Decatur High School in 1944. He was a traffic specialist for General Electric for twenty-four years before relocating to Champaign in 1974. Upon his retirement he returned to Decatur. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church. For many years he was an active member and officer of Delta Nu Alpha Transportation Fraternity. He enjoyed playing Santa Claus at the GE children’s parties, gardening, and was an avid blood donor. He married Alma L. (Eyer) Best on November 4, 1947.
He leaves behind Alma, his beloved wife of over sixty-two years, sons; Willard “Dick” Best and wife Rose of Decatur and Mark Piekutowski of O’Fallon, Illinois, daughter; Teresa Barbercheck and husband Richard of Columbus, Indiana, sister; Betty Wazio of Chicago, nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
He was reunited in heaven with his parents, son; Tom Jr., brother; Joseph, and sisters; Helen, Mary, Lucy, Frances, and Virginia.
