Decatur-Thomas 'Tommy' Sellars, 85, of Decatur, passed away 3:40 pm Sunday, May 9, 2010 at St. Mary's Hospital.
Graveside services to celebrate Tommy's life will be 1:00 pm Saturday, May 15, 2010 at Winchester City Cemetery with Chaplain Jim Mackey, Lt. Colonel U.S. Air Force Retired, officiating. Military rites will be provided by the American Legion Post 442 and V.F.W. Post 11524 of Winchester. Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home is assisting the family with these arrangements. Tommy was born May 11, 1924 in Winchester, IL the son of Thomas and Fannie (Jones) Sellars. He retired from Caterpillar as a line inspector in 1987 after 32 years of employment. After his retirement, he was employed by the Decatur Auto Auction. Tommy proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII from 1944 ' 1946. For his services he was awarded the American Area Victory Medal, the Asiatic Pacific medal, and the Philippine Liberation medal. Tommy and Connie Conant married on April 8, 1977 at The First Church of God in Decatur. Tommy was a member of VFW Post 99, he enjoyed golfing, and traveling to South Padre Island. Tommy was a loving and caring husband, he believed in God and loved his Lord and Savior.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife Connie; his children Sally Loman of Decatur; June (husband Del) Rutz of El Dorado Hills, CA; Marsha Messmore of Fredericksburg, VA; Tom W. (wife Sandy) Sellars of St. Joseph, IL; David A. (wife Danni) Sellars of Orlando, FL; and Cindy (husband Mike) Soules of Elizabeth City, NC; ten grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; his sister-in-laws Carol A. Eubank of McAllen, TX and Debe D. Leibengood of Paris, TX; several nieces and nephews and his loving caring Christian caregiver, Linda Creek.
Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Albert, Russell, Ralph and one brother in infancy and his sisters Florence, Frances and Mildred.
