Thomas E. Smith's Obituary
Decatur-Thomas E. Smith, 66, of Decatur, passed away Monday, April 9, 2018 in St. Mary’s Hospital.
Tom was born January 8, 1952 in Decatur, Illinois, the son of Walter C. and Kathryn M. (Meers) Smith. He received his Bachelor’s degree from Lewis University. Tom worked in education most of his life. He was the Education Director of Webster-Cantrell Hall and employed with the Decatur Public School District retiring after forty years of service. Tom was member of Saints James and Patrick and member and past officer with the Knights of Columbus Darrell W. Beck Council #577. He also enjoyed playing golf.
Tom is survived by his brother Stephen E. Smith and wife Ronda, nieces Kelli Runyon and husband Craig and Stefanie Hopkins and husband Matthew, nephew Thaddeus Smith, great-nieces Amelia and Greta Hopkins, and great-nephew William Runyon.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents.
Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Tom’s life will be 10:00 AM Monday, April 16, 2018 in St. James Catholic Church, 742 East Clay Street Decatur, with Rev. John Burnette celebrant. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 PM Sunday, April 15, 2018 in Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. Teresa High School.
