Thomas Eugene Welsh Sr's Obituary
Thomas Eugene Welsh Sr., 76, passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2025, in Decatur, IL.
He was born on September 25, 1948, in Decatur, a son of the late Howard William Welsh and Mary Elizabeth Bruder Welsh. He served his country in the United States Air Force, and in later years was a dedicated a member of the Macon County Honor Guard. He took great pride in honoring the service and sacrifice of his fellow servicemembers.
Thomas was an Elder at First United Methodist Church of Decatur. He loved to stay involved in church events and took great joy in being able to share the bounty of his garden with the congregation. The most time he spent sitting still was when he was fishing, but he could otherwise be found racing his boat on Lake Decatur or racing his dragster on the track.
He will be remembered as honorable, selfless, and charitable.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Michael Welsh and Carl Welsh.
Those left to cherish his memory include: his wife of over 40 years, Sowling Welsh; children, Lisa Garibay, Susie Welsh, and Tommy Welsh; grandchildren, Aurora Welsh and Alyse Garibay; and siblings, Dale Welsh and Debbie Frey.
The family of Thomas Welsh will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Friday, February 28, 2025, at First United Methodist Church of Decatur. Funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM, with burial to follow at Graceland Cemetery. Service will be officiated by Pastor Molly Hawk, with Honors rendered by the Macon County Honor Guard.
