Timothy George Wittmer's Obituary
Timothy George Wittmer, 45, of Decatur, IL, passed away at 12:25 P.M. on Saturday (April 18, 2026) at his home.
Tim was born on May 3, 1980, in Champaign, IL, the son of James Frederick Wittmer and Ann Esther (Eshbaugh) Wittmer. He married Rebecca L. (Faulkner) in Decatur, IL, on
October 30, 2014.
Tim served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He was a Sergeant and was deployed with 2/7 to Fallujah, Iraq in 2004 and again with 1/25 Weapons Company in 2006.
He will be missed by all those who loved and served with him. Fair winds and following seas to this outstanding Marine. Semper Fidelis. Tim proudly served his community through the Decatur Police Department for eighteen years serving many roles and he retired as Sergeant on December 12, 2025.
Tim is survived by his wife of almost 12 years of marriage, Rebecca of Decatur, IL; two sons: Aric Wittmer, 10, of Decatur, IL, and Austin Cottrell, 22, and wife Jadan of Goldsboro, N.C.; two brothers: Andrew Wittmer and wife of Forsyth, IL.; and Mark Wittmer and wife of Madison, WI,; brothers-in-law: Tim Faulkner and wife of WI,; and Daniel Faulkner and wife of Decatur, IL,; father-in-law: Larry Faulkner; and four nephews: Charlie Wittmer of Mt. Zion, IL, Tyler Faulkner of WI, Casey Faulkner of WI, and Jaxon Faulkner of Decatur, IL.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
The family would like to give a very special thank you to longtime friend Ed Culp and the staff at Cancer Care of Decatur, IL, and nurses Darrah and Monique, and his two hospice nurses Amy and Nicole.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday (05-02-2026) at First Christian Church with visitation from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at the church. The burial will be held at Graceland Cemetery immediately following the memorial service.
