Tom was born May 10, 1951 in Decatur. He was raised by his Uncle Elmer and Aunt Kate in Oakley, where he learned the craft of butchering and processing meat at an early age. He worked many years as a member of Laborer's Local 159. He also worked for Kelly Construction. Tom later obtained his CDL and was a driver for Christy-Foltz Company. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting and fishing. Tom owned several award winning coonhounds and was known for raising beagles that were excellent rabbit dogs.
He leaves behind his son, Tom Sheets (Amber Cowger), grandson, Devyn Sheets, both of Oakley, former wife Vicki Sheets, niece, Debbie Sheets, extended family members, and special friends, Mark and Tracy Grider, Terri Flach, Bones, Amanda Sites, and Mike Gulyash.
Tom was reunited in Heaven with his 'bonus mom', Bonnie Voyles, mother, Nellie Payton, brothers LeRoy and Harold Sheets, and sister, Darlene Dickerson.
Tom adored his son and grandson and will be deeply missed by all his family and friends.
The family would like to thank Dr. Kairouz and the nurses and staff on the 5th floor of DMH for their compassion and care of Tom.
