Trevor M Smith's Obituary
DECATUR- Trevor M. Smith, 89, of Decatur, passed away 5:50A.M., July 20, 2010 at Heritage Manor, Mt. Zion.
Services to celebrate Trevor's life will be 10:00 A.M., Friday, July 23 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be 9:30 A.M. to time of service. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery. Mr. Smith was born March 10, 1921 in East St. Louis, IL. He was the son of Lafarrah and Essie (Tischhauser) Smith. He married Norma J. “Jeanne” Buchanan on August 31, 1945 in Central Christian Church, Decatur. Mr. Smith was a long time member of Central Christian Church, Macon Lodge #8, American Legion Post 105, IBEW Local 51, and the Royal Arcanum.
Trevor was employed by Illinois Power for 37 years as an electric meter man. He also served his country in WWII for 2 1/2 years in North Africa and Italy where he was assigned to the 6200 Engineering Training Company and was awarded the Bronze Battle Star for his service. Trevor is the last surviving member of the Decatur Grays semi-pro baseball team and at one time was scouted by the St. Louis Cardinals.
Trevor’s true life passion was watching Cardinal baseball on T.V and golfing with his buddies at Nelson Park Golf Course where he once shot a hole in one.
Surviving are his son Ron Smith and wife Andrea of Decatur, IL., grandchildren; Stephanie Roney and husband David of Greer, S.C., Aaron Smith and wife Lisa of Huntersville, N.C., Kevin Smith of Normal, IL., great grandchildren Allyson, Katelyn, Daci Roney of Greer, S.C., Hunter Smith, Ryleigh Smith, of Huntersville, N.C. brother Norman Smith and wife Gwen of Solvang, CA, 2 nieces and 4 nephews.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his wife, parents and one brother Merwyn.
