Vernon Edward Davis' Obituary
Vernon Edward Davis, 71, of Decatur, passed away Saturday, April 6 at Decatur Memorial Hospital. Visitation will be held Friday, April 19, at Grace Methodist Church from 11am till 1pm. A service will commence at 1pm Friday, April 19 at Grace Methodist Church. A burial will follow services at Graceland Cemetery, Decatur, Illinois.
Vern was born December 6, 1952, to Lawrence E. Sr and Dora (Wolfe) Davis. Vern was the fifth of their six children.
Vern married the love of his life, Tama (Thomas) on July 9, 1977, at St Paul United Methodist Church. They were blessed with three children, Christina, Adam and Bridget.
Vernon had a long career as a restaurant manager starting at Steak N’ Shake and Dairy Queen before ending his tenure at Kentucky Fried Chicken. In 1997 Vern started his work for ADM. He retired after 21 years in 2018.
Vern was a Sunday school teacher for eight years. He attended Grace Methodist Church for 10 years. He was also an avid St Louis Cardinals fan and the Fighting Ilini. He loved spending time with his wife and volunteering at their church’s economy shop. Vern enjoyed the craziness that ensued when all his children and their spouses came over to spend time together.
Vern is survived by his wife, Tama, their three children, Christina Davis of Lake City, Adam (Kira) Davis of Mattoon, Bridget (Brittanie) Davis and grandpup, Jupiter of Decatur. Three brothers, Lawrence Jr, Ed (Ann) Davis, Ray Davis. A sister, Dodie and brother-in-law, Van Thomas, along with many nieces and nephews.
Vern is preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Justis, his brother, Robert. His mother and father-in-law and sister-in-law Debbie and Dixie.
