Virgil Lee Deemer's Obituary
Virgil Lee Deemer, 86, of Decatur, passed away in his home on Thursday, July 19, 2018, surrounded by family. Virgil was born in East Liverpool, Ohio, on July 19, 1932 to Carlos and Meryle (Luce) Deemer. He was a 1950 graduate of East Liverpool High School. After graduation, he proudly served in the United State Air Force during the Korean War as an air traffic controller from 1953 to 1957. After his military service, Virgil attended Ohio State University where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in business.
Virgil married Barbara Payton on June 19, 1955. He worked as a pharmaceutical sales representative for Eli Lilly for over 30 years from which he retired.
Virgil was a member of Elwin United Methodist Church, where he was a prior member of the choir. He was an avid golfer and long-time member of Southside Country Club. Virgil was very active in Golden K of Decatur and previously volunteered at Decatur Memorial Hospital where he enjoyed helping others.
Virgil is survived by his wife of 63 years, Barbara; three children, Jeffrey Deemer of Decatur, Gregory (Laurie) Deemer of Covington, Georgia, and Kathleen Deemer McIntyre of Boody, Illinois; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Victoria.
Funeral services to celebrate the life of Virgil Deemer will be at 12:00 pm on Friday, July 27, 2018, at Graceland-Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will precede the service from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery with full military honors, conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard.
