Virgil Lee Williams' Obituary
Virgil Lee Williams, 84, of Decatur passed away on Sunday, November 17, 2013 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Virgil was born on August 1, 1929 in Decatur the son of Troy Sr.and Ruby (Getz). He served his country proudly in the US Air Force in Japan during the end of World War II and was discharged with the rank of Sergeant. Virgil retired in 1991 from Grigoleit Company as a maintenance supervisor. He loved to be with his family, camping, woodworking, and working on miscellaneous repair projects. Virgil married Donna Reynolds in Decatur on September 11, 1949 and they had 64 wonderful years of marriage. He had a wonderful sense of humor and will be greatly missed.
Surviving are his wife Donna; daughters, Patricia (Mark) Pieske, Pam (George) Arndt, and Ginny (Bill) Brocksmith, all of Decatur; son, Gary (Judy) Williams of Shelbyville. Also surviving are two sisters, Maxine Williams and Marilyn (Homer) Rambo of Decatur; 8 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 3 step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, 1 sister, a brother-in-law, a sister-in-law, 1 great-grandchild, and his favorite pet companion BJ.
The family would like to thank Dr. Fritz and his staff and the DMH 4th floor nursing staff for the care they have provided.
Service to celebrate Virgil’s life will be 11 AM Wednesday, November 20, 2013 in Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home with pastor Donald Horath of Hillside Bethel Tabernacle officiating. Visitation will be 9:30 – 11 AM Wednesday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard and conclude with the “Flight Home” ceremony. Memorials are suggested to Meals on Wheels.
