Virginia Lee Doty's Obituary
Virginia Lee Doty, 89, of Maroa, Illinois, passed away March 31, 2024, at Moweaqua Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.
Virginia was born in Deland, Illinois, on March 18, 1935, the daughter of Earl and Irene (Edge) Parrish. She was a graduate of Stephen Decatur High School in Decatur. She married Robert “Bob” Doty on June 5, 1954, in Decatur. She worked as an insurance adjuster for USF&G Insurance Company. She was a longtime faithful member of Immaculate Conception Parish in Shelbyville until moving to Decatur, where she joined St. James Parish (later Ss. James and Patrick Parish). Virginia was a passionate advocate for blood donation, and she selflessly donated many gallons over her lifetime. In her free time, she enjoyed gardening, traveling, playing the slots, and having a beer with friends.
Virginia is survived by her daughter Terri (Ron) Braden of Maroa, Illinois; son Rick (Jodi) Doty of Clinton, Illinois; 6 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 sisters, and one grandson.
Visitation for Virginia will be from 5pm to 7pm on Wednesday, April 3, at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11am on Thursday, April 4, at St. James Church. Burial in Graceland Cemetery will follow the Mass. Memorials may be directed to Ss. James and Patrick Parish. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.gracelandfairlawn.com.
