Virginia Nansen's Obituary
Virginia Lucile Nansen, 96, of Springfield, formerly of Warrensburg, passed away April 30, 2019 at Lewis Memorial Christian Village in Springfield, IL.
Virginia was born May 7, 1922 in Wayne City, IL, the daughter of Roy and Ruth (Ray) Collie. She was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during WWII. She married Dwayne Nansen on December 30, 1945 in Decatur, IL.
Virginia had earned a BA from Millikin University and her Master’s degree from U of I. She had taught for many years at Warrensburg Latham Public Schools, retiring in 1987.
Virginia was an aficionado of opera music which brought her much joy. She was a member of the Warrensburg United Methodist Church for many years and was involved with Friends of the Barclay Public Library in Warrensburg.
Surviving are her children, Beth Nansen (Terry Savko) of Springfield, IL, Jenny Powell (Wes) of Stoutland, MO; grandchildren, Amber Powell, Clint Powell; great grandchildren, Cadence, Mackenzie, Beatrix, and Virginia.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dwayne and her parents.
Funeral service will be held 10:00 AM, Saturday May 4, 2019, at Moran and Goebel Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 9 – 10 AM Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Barclay Public Library in Warrensburg or UMCOR.
