Virginia Lee Spires' Obituary
Virginia Lee Spires, 84, of Decatur, formerly of Hillsboro, passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2016, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, surrounded by her loving family.
Virginia was born October 5, 1931, in Hillsboro, to William Edmund and Mabel Irene (Mills) Mayfield. She graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1950. She married Bill Spires on August 31, 1968 in Decatur. She and her husband were employees of Illinois Power in Decatur until their retirement in 1987.
She is survived by her daughter, Tresa Sexton of Mattoon; four grandchildren, Charles Sexton of Dalton City, Ronette (Brent Hawkins) Frank of Decatur, Regina (Mark) James of Mattoon, Delrene (Troy) Hunter of Port St. Lucie, FL; fourteen great-grandchildren; three great-great- grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews; her sister, Maxine Lugari of Decatur.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill; her siblings, Cloise Mayfield, Alma Murray and Marilyn Houck.
Graveside services to celebrate the life of Virginia Lee Spires will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 23, 2016, at Point Pleasant Cemetery in Long Creek. Memorials may be directed to Pilgrim Lutheran Church.
