Walter "Earl" Baker's Obituary
Walter “Earl” Baker, 93, of Decatur, Illinois, passed away April 7, 2024.
Earl was born in Decatur on December 15, 1930, the son of Walter Earl Baker Sr. and Lucille (Wendt) Baker. He served honorably in the U.S. Navy. He retired after a long career in maintenance work, after which he enjoyed doing woodwork in his workshop. Earl was a man of true integrity and honesty. He held himself to high ideals and expected the same from those around him. His friends and others in his generation recognized him as “The American Classic.” He was respected and cherished by all who knew him.
Earl is survived by a large extended family and his dear friends Mike and Scott and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Beverly, and sisters Joanne Bourne and Dolorez Davis.
