Walter L. Carter's Obituary
Walter L Carter, 99 of Decatur Illinois, went to be with his Lord and Savior on February 21, 2026, at Imboden Creek Senior Living Center and Rehabilitation.
Walter was born on May 21, 1926, in Vienna, IL. The son of Fred W. Carter and Audrey E. (Frazier) Carter.
He married Barbara L. (Hall) Carter on May 21, 1949, at Riverside Baptist Church, Decatur, IL. They were married for over 75 years.
Walter was a member of Riverside Baptist Church, Decatur, IL.
Walter worked at A.E. Staley Mfg. Company as a Corn Feed Sales Director and retired after 38 years of service.
Following retirement, he delivered flowers for Svendsen Florist for 20 years and volunteered at St. Mary’s hospital transporting patients.
Walter is survived by his children: Loni Furry and husband John of Forsyth, IL, Curt Carter and wife Kathy of Mt. Zion, IL and Tim Carter and wife Shannon of Decatur.
Grandchildren: Ryan Lindsey of Cape Coral, FL, Jeremy (Jennifer) Witts of Nixa, Mo, Courtney Lindsey of Decatur; Andy (Megan) Carter of Carbondale, IL, Andrea (Sean) Higgins of Monticello, IL, Amber (Trent)Thompson of Sullivan, IL, Maegan (Brad) Carter of Decatur and two step-grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, three step-great grandchildren.
Walter was proceeded in death by his parents, his wife Barbara, two infant daughters Vickie and Linda, one grandson Adam Carter, one great grandson Owen Thompson, four brothers James Carter, Ralph Carter, Marion Carter, Kenneth Carter, seven sisters Florence (Stickle) Carter, Mary (Krutsinger) Carter, Ruth (Burris) Carter, Blanche (Rosenthal) Carter, Sarah (Brohez) Carter, Rosemary (Wright) Carter and Nancy (Stewart) Carter.
A visitation will be held from 9:00 am to 11:00 am on Tuesday, March 3rd, 2026, at Graceland Fairlawn. The funeral will follow at 11:00 am at Graceland Fairlawn. The burial will follow the service at Macon County Memorial Park.
Walter was actively involved at Riverside Baptist Church serving as a Deacon, Sunday school teacher, Worship leader, choir and orchestra Director and sang in the choir. He loved to tell others about our Lord and Savior and was the longest active member at Riverside.
He was very generous with his time for family and anyone in need. He loved going to St. Louis Cardinal games and always had a funny story or corny joke to tell anyone who would listen.
