Walter Dannewitz's Obituary
Decatur-Walter Leon Dannewitz, 78, of Decatur, IL passed away Thursday, February 16, 2012 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Services to celebrate Walter's life will be 11:00 am Tuesday, February 21, 2012 in St. John's Lutheran Church with Pastor Russell Weise officiating.
Visitation will be 6:00 ' 8:00 pm Monday in Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Internment will be in Fairlawn Cemetery with military honors Conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard and conclude with the 'Flight Home' ceremony. Memorials are suggested to St. John's Lutheran Church.
Walter was born May 9, 1933 in Decatur the son of Fredrick William and Eloise Louise (Heflin) Dannewitz Jr. He was a veteran of the Army and served in the Korean War. Walter retired from being an Inspector Factory Worker at CAT in 1991. In his spare time he was a cub master and on the troop committee for the Boy Scouts; served on the County Board, the Church Committee and the Office Local 751 Union; and spent 12 years being a part of the Democratic Precinct Committee.
Surviving are sons, Dennis William (Cindy) Dannewitz of Mt. Zion; Michael William (Joan) Dannewitz of Sherman; and Mark Wayne (Pattie) Dannewitz of Decatur; brothers, Phillip Lee (Amy) Dannewitz of Decatur; and Robert (Margie) Dannewitz of Los Alamos, NM; sister, Erma Lewis of Decatur; and two grandchildren.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Joan, and second wife Mary.
