Walter P. Jones' Obituary
Walter P. Jones, 92, of Decatur, IL formerly of Westerville, OH passed away Thursday, May 14, 2015, in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Walter was born on March 9, 1923 in Holiday the son of Benjamin A. and Grace (Morr) Jones Sr. He was a graduate of the University of Illinois, and worked for the Department of Agriculture for the state of Ohio. He served his country proudly in the U.S Navy during WWII and the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ, American Legion, and Lyons Club. He volunteered for Habitat for Humanity, D.O.V.E., Meals on Wheels, and Good Samaritan Inn. He married Carolyn Klitzing on August 7, 1949 in Decatur.
Surviving are his wife, Carolyn; sons, Marc Jones (Jean) of Gahanna, OH; William Jones (Cheryl) of Westerville, OH; Daniel Jones (Betsy) of Westerville, OH; daughter, Cynthia Minor of Westerville, OH; brother, Benjamin A. Jones Jr. (Georgeann) of Urbana, IL; grandchildren: Chad Minor (Lisa), Molly Maurer (Matthew), Trevor Jones, Bradley Jones, Bethany Jones, Scott Jones, and Lauren Jones; great-grandson, Harrison Walter Minor.
He was preceded in death by his parents and son-in-law, Larry Minor.
Funeral service to celebrate Walter’s life wills be10AM Monday, May 18, 2015 in Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be 9-10 AM Monday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Union Cemetery in Altamont. Memorials are suggested to Habitat Humanity or D.O.V. E.
