Walter Raymond "Ray" Scroggins' Obituary
Decatur – Walter Raymond “Ray” Scroggins, 82, of Decatur, passed away Friday, August 15, 2025.
Ray was born on August 19, 1942, in Rockford, IL the son of Nelson and Mae (Brummett) Scroggins. Ray worked for the Wabash Railroad for thirteen years and retired in 2003 from Caterpillar where he was working as an auditor. His greatest passions were his children, grandchildren, gardening, raising pigeons and fishing. He was a member of the National Pigeon Association and retired UAW member. Ray married Patricia A. Jones on January 10, 1959, in Decatur, IL.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Rebecca Eagan; two brothers and one sister.
Ray is survived by his wife, Patricia of Decatur; children: Vicki Jo (Stephen) Webb of Mattoon, Jeffrey Lynn Scroggins of Lovington, and Terri Lynne Scroggins of Decatur; nine grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be from 1 pm until the service time of 2 pm, Saturday, August 23, 2025, at the Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Burial with the "Flight Home" ceremony will follow in Graceland Cemetery. In remembrance of Ray the family asks that you plant a tree or flowers.
