Walter Lewis Walker's Obituary
Forsyth-Walter Lewis Walker, 90, of Decatur, passed away Sunday, December 24, 2017 in his home with his family by his side.
Walter was born January 17, 1927 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Walter and Imo (Lucas) Walker. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II and the USAF during the Korean War. He was employed with Caterpillar retiring after twenty-seven years of service. Walter then became a teacher at the Juvenile Detention Center and numerous county schools retiring after ten years of service. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and Loyal Order of the Moose where he attained the Pilgrim Degree. Walter was active in local government, enjoyed reading especially about the Civil War, and liked to do word searches. He married Carmen Wilcott October 4, 1950 and later they divorced. Walter then married Barbara (Noonan) Williamson on December 20, 1980.
Walter leaves behind his wife Barbara, children Erica (Larry) Traylor of Columbia, South Carolina, Walter (Teal) Walker of Decatur, Valentina (Chief) Logan of Argenta, stepchildren William Williamson of Silex, Missouri, Peggy Banks of Mahomet, Paul (Ann) Williamson of Decatur, nine grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents.
Services to celebrate Walter’s life will be 6:00 PM Friday, December 29, 2017 in Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 4-6 PM prior to the services. Memorials are suggested to Mooseheart Child City & School Mooseheart, IL 60539.
