Dr. Walter Winter's Obituary
Dr. Walter Winter, a long time Decatur, IL orthodontist passed away on Feb. 19, 2009 in Sun City Center, FL. Dr. Winter was born on April 15, 1912 in Lensburg, IL. He married Auvergne Jackson in Waterloo, IL Dec. 24, 1937. She preceded him in death.
Dr. Winter graduated from Washington University Dental School in St. Louis, MO and then completed one of the first post doctorial orthodontic specialty programs in the United States at St. Louis University. He established his orthodontic practice in Decatur in 1939. The practice grew to eventually have four additional specialists and offices in many central Illinois communities.
Dr. Winter is survived by his beloved companion of 17 years, Maria Maddox and three daughters; Jeannine Lyons and husband Jim of Sarasota, FL, Elaine Macon and husband Dr. Larry Macon of Mt. Sterling, IL, and Marlene Taylor and husband Chuck of Canyon Lake, TX. He has 7 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held in the auditorium at Freedom Plaza, Sun City Center on Thursday March 5 at 2 PM. Memorials may be made to The American Cancer Society or your local Hospice.
