Wayne Alfred Stanley's Obituary
Wayne Alfred Stanley, 89, of Decatur, IL, passed away Sunday, June 1, 2014, at Heartland Health Care Center, Decatur.
Wayne was born January 29, 1925 in Decatur, IL, the son of Floyd and Nora (Claybaugh) Stanley. He married Helen Mae (Johnson), also of Decatur, on March 15, 1942 in St. Charles, MO. Wayne was employed by A.E. Staley Manufacturing Co. for over 40 years. He proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, and for many years was a 32nd degree Mason and Shriner.
He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Helen; son Larry Stanley and wife Martha of Decatur; daughter H. Louise Bailey of Decatur; son Ronald Stanley and wife Jan of Sonoma, CA; daughter Pamela Stanley of Decatur; and son Timothy Stanley and wife Darcy of Greenville, SC; 11 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 sisters and 1 brother; son-in-law Douglas Bailey; and great grandson Perrin Stanley.
A self-made man, Wayne valued practical education in life. He and Helen especially enjoyed their many travels across the globe. He was a man of integrity whose life was marked by love, dedication to family and loyalty to friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 5, with visitation from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, both at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Entombment will be at the Star of Hope Mausoleum in Graceland Cemetery. Memorials may be made either to Shriners Hospitals for Children or Perrin’s Park in care of Cornerstone Baptist Church, 8508 Pelham Rd., Greenville, SC 29615.
