Wiley G. Moore's Obituary
Decatur-Wiley G. Moore, 80, of Decatur, passed away at 8:13 a.m. Friday, December 25, 2009 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield with his sons by his side.
Services to celebrate Wiley’s life will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 29, 2009 in the Chapel of Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Monday, December 28, 2009 at the funeral home. Interment will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Big Creek, Mississippi. Memorial contributions may be made to the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Online condolences and memories may be shared with the family at www.gracelandfairlawn.com.
Wiley was born February 1, 1929 in Big Creek, Mississippi the son of John Ellis and Pearl Irene (Gable) Moore. He proudly served his country in U.S. Army during the Korean War. Wiley met his wife Virginia Howard in 1950 at the Army Intelligence School in Monterey, California they were married there April 22, 1951. After leaving the service they settled in Decatur to raise their family. Wiley had a long career in the banking business. He began at the Millikin Bank and retired from Citizens Bank. He spent his spare time playing music and gardening. He recorded several CD’s with the most popular on being “Beautiful Illinois”. Wiley and his wife Virginia raised thousands of gladiolas and gave them to nursing homes and shut in folks who really enjoyed the beautiful flowers. He also loved spending time in Mississippi as often as he could. His wife Virginia preceded him in death December 18, 2008.
He leaves behind his sons; Robert A. Moore of Darien, IL, Gary R. Moore and wife Mona of Maroa, IL, and Jerry G. Moore and wife Dixie of Decatur, IL, grandsons; Bob Moore, Jr. and Joshua Moore of Darien, IL, Toby L. Moore, Amanda S. Moore and fiancée Hash, and Jake Moore and wife Tabitha of Decatur, great-grandchildren; Chase, little Jake, and Gina Moore, and sister; Marie Nichols of Jackson, Mississippi.
He rests in peace in wait of the return of the savior to be reunited with his wife Virginia, parents, three brothers, and three sisters.
