Decatur – Willard A. Carter, Jr., 56, of Decatur, passed away suddenly at 5:38 am Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at St. Mary’s Hospital.
Graveside services to celebrate Willard’s life will be held at 10:00 am Friday, March 5, 2010 at Graceland Cemetery with Pastor Jim Baldwin officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-7 pm Monday, March 1, 2010 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. The family request casual attire. Inurnment with the “Flight Home” Ceremony will be at Graceland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be sent to the family or the American Heart Association. Willard was born July 3, 1953 in Decatur, the son of Willard A. and Darlene N. (Richardson) Sr. He was previously employed at Garner Auto Body. He was an avid NASCAR and racing fan. He enjoyed going to Macon Speedway and surrounding areas for stock car and go-cart racing.
He will be sadly missed by his mother: Darlene, sister: Linda (Rodney, Sr.) Hartman,
brother: Eugene R. Carter (Krista Frisby) of Decatur, uncle William E. Cole, niece: Lesley A. Imel (Jason Scales), great-nieces: Alizabeth N. Imel and Zoey R. Carter, nephew: Michael R. Carter II, and great-nephew: Michael R. Carter III, all of Decatur, nephew: Chad S. Imel of Bullhead City, Arizona, Special friends: Melvin “Corky” Dulgar, Butch Garner, Darryl Hartnell, and Ronnie Tucker, and many racing friends and co-workers.
He was reunited in Heaven with his father: Willard Sr., grandmother: Mary L. Cole, and brother: Michael Ray, Sr.
He will always be remembered and loved as being a devoted son, brother, uncle, and friend. Willard was hard working and always willing to help others. He will be loved and missed forever. Rest in Peace.
