William Eugene Brown's Obituary
William Eugene Brown, 93, of Decatur, passed away Friday, September 30, 2016, at Lincoln Manor Healthcare in Decatur.
Bill was born April 10, 1923, in Decatur, to Louis and Esther Ruth (Howe) Brown. He served in the United States Army during WWII. He married Dorothy M. Brannon on November 15, 1941. Bill was a truck driver for General Transfer for many years. He was a member of Crest Haven Country Club, Decatur Moose Lodge. He loved playing golf, square dancing, ball room dancing, playing bingo and going to the boat to gamble.
He is survived by his wife of 75 years, Dorothy; one daughter, Ruth Ann (Larry) Hambrecht of Forsyth; two grandchildren, Phillip Jo Hambrecht and Jamie Jo Hambrecht; five great-grandchildren, Jennifer, Nathan, Pharryn, Ashlynne and Chloe Hambrecht; four great-great-grandchildren, Ally, Lexi, Alex and Jaye Bales.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services to celebrate the life of Bill Brown will be 11 a.m. Monday, October 3, 2016 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday before the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. The family requests casual attire for the service. Memorials may be directed to the Salvation Army 229 W Main St, Decatur, IL 62523.
