William Eugene Seeforth's Obituary
Decatur – William “Bill” Eugene Seeforth, 61, of Decatur, passed away at 2:35 pm Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at Heartland of Decatur.
Services to celebrate Bill’s life will be held at 10 am Saturday, August 1, 2009 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home with Pastor Michael Damery officiating. Visitation will be held from 6-8 pm Friday, July 31, 2009 at the funeral home. Interment with the “Flight Home” Ceremony will be at Graceland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be sent to Area 10 Special Olympics Illinois. Online condolences and memories may be shared with the family at www.gracelandfairlawn.com.
Bill was born on April 30, 1948 in Kirksville, MO, and adopted by his parents Harry and Betty (Rohweder) Seeforth who preceded him in death.
Bill attended Progress School from the time of it’s inception until the opening of Macon Resources Inc., where he attended day programming until June 09. Bill knew everyone and everyone knew Bill, especially his famous ‘Hey You!’ and his big hugs.
Bill loved anything to do with Elvis, popcorn, chocolate ice cream, fishing and competing in Special Olympics of any type. Bill started his Special Olympics competition years in swimming where he completed in the first Special Olympics held in Chicago and then later moved to bowling where he excelled for many years. Bill also competed in basketball, power lifting, softball, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, track and field and equestrian and had many trophies, medals and ribbons to show for it.
Bill was a member of Pathways To Independence, now known as Dream Catchers. Bill was named Central Illinois Area 10 Athlete of the year and also Special Olympics Illinois Outstanding Athlete of the Year for the state in 2003. In 2007 Bill received the George Moore Memorial Award for Outstanding Rider of the Year in Equestrian.
He is survived by his brother Jerry (Bonnie) Seeforth of Decatur, sister: Karin (Richard) Webster of Decatur, nephew: Jason (Marrisa) Seeforth of Murrieta, CA, niece: Ashley (Kyle) Atchason of Warrensburg, great-nieces: Trystan Mueller, Evun Seeforth of Murrieta, CA, great nephew: Austin Atchason of Warrensburg.
He was reunited in Heaven with his parents.
