William Steven "Bill" Whitsel Jr.'s Obituary
William Steven “Bill” Whitsel, Jr., 50, of Argenta, Illinois, passed away November 13, 2025, at Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Bill was born in Decatur, Illinois, on June 29, 1975, the son of William Steven Whitsel, Sr., and Sondra Butler. He married Brenda West on October 25, 2003. She preceded him in death in 2005. Bill earned a bachelor's degree in organizational leadership from Greenville University. He worked as a coach/assistant manager for Walmart. He was a member of Moundford Free Methodist Church and The Cross. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, karaoke, and cheering on his favorite sports teams, especially the Illini, the Cubs, and the Bears. He was devoted to his children and grandchildren and was an enthusiastic supporter of all their sporting pursuits, especially the Unity Christian High School Wrestling Team and the Warrensburg Wrestling Club.
Bill is survived by his parents William Steven (Feena) Whitsel, Sr., and Sondra (Darrell) Baker; children Tia Frydenger and Zachary (LeAnne) Whitsel, both of Decatur; stepchildren Tatiana (Sydnee) Harmeier and Fabiola (Justin) Smith; siblings Christopher Whitsel, Travis (Rachel) Whitsel, Allison Maupin, Tiffany (Adam) Schussele, Jaclyn Damm, and Danyelle McFall; grandchildren Kallum, Karolyne, ZJ, Thomas, Rylee, Cameron, Warren, Stephen, Clover, and Hendrix; grandfather Alvin Butler; nieces/nephews Haley, Autumn, Logan, Adam, Trenton, Krislyn, Dominic, Jaylin, Camren, and Jax; and many extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Brenda; grandparents Rosella Butler and Forrest & Virginia Whitsel; and aunt Kathy Whitsel.
Visitation for Bill will be from 4pm to 7pm on Tuesday, November 18, at The Cross (3253 N. Brush College Rd., Decatur, IL). Funeral service will be at 11am on Wednesday, November 19, also at the church. Burial in Graceland Cemetery will follow the service.
