Willie "Sonny" Green's Obituary
Decatur- Willie “Sonny” Green, 72, of Decatur, passed away Friday, September 16, 2016 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Services to celebrate Willie’s life will be 11 a.m. Saturday, September 24, 2016 at the Life Builders Church, 833 W. Pershing, Decatur IL, 62526. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, September 23, 2016 in Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Interment will be at Graceland Cemetery.
Willie was born on February 21, 1944 in Grenada, MS, the son of Willie and Bennie Lee (Ingram) Green. Willie worked at Staley’s as an electrician for twenty-six years, in which he later retired from. He enjoyed bowling, and was very passionate about building and renovating homes. In his retirement, he was known as a handyman. Willie was a member of New Life Church of God, Elder of the church, on the church board and a member of the men’s ministry and chorus. Willie and Doris (Stitts) Green were united in marriage on June 13, 1989, and they shared twenty-seven wonderful years together.
Cherishing his memories is his wife, Doris Stitts-Green; children, Ka’Ron Green, Julia Green, Chelsy Green, Joyce M. McCoy, Patricia Hudson, Vanessa (Kervin) Jones, Vivian Williams, Cassandra (Patrick) Hawkins, Faye (James) Reed, Melissa Holloway, Janette Williams, Timothy (Chastina) Ealey, Willie (Shannon) Green III, Elliott Green, Ahmaad Mathews, Tyra Douglas, Stoney Whaley, Chaylynn Ann Force, brothers, Johnny (Karen) Green, Leon (Terina) Green, Bennie Green, Grady Mayberry; sisters, Linda Hamilton, Nora Green, Renee Frost, Alberta Holmes; forty grandchildren; twenty one great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, James Green, Brandy Mayberry; sisters, Eva Mae Green, Lula Jones, and one great-granddaughter.
