Willie K. Tarter's Obituary
Willie K. Tarter, 87, of Decatur, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at Heritage Manor in Mt. Zion.
Willie was born September 23, 1926 in Clinton, IL, the son of Thomas and Perley Tarter. He proudly served in the United States Navy. He liked listening to music, playing bingo, and watching the Chicago Cubs. He also enjoyed going to go-kart races every Friday, and he loved spending time with his family. He was a long-time member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church. He married Wanda McCoy-Hendrickson on June 16, 1950. They shared 63 wonderful years together.
Willie leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Wanda; son, Kenneth Tarter of Decatur; daughters, Diane (Scott) Southwell of Decatur; Glenda (Jerry) West of Decatur; 7 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He is reunited with his parents; daughters, Lisa Beiler and Mary Ellen; four brothers; three sisters; and grandson, Shane Eric Dennis.
Services to celebrate Willie’s life will be 1 pm Thursday, December 12, 2013 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard.
