Derald Wayne Schoneman

Derald Wayne Schoneman, 97, passed away Friday, February 9, 2018 in Decatur Memorial Hospital with his family by his side.

Derald was born January 15, 1921 in Decatur, Illinois, the son of Roy and Emma (Hardin) Schoneman. He served his country as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II. Derald retired from A.E. Staley after thirty-seven years. He also built several homes and worked on cars. He was a member of Parkway Church of the Nazarene and attended Mound Road Christian Church. Derald enjoyed bowling, watching sports, dirt track racing, flowers and gardening, and most of all spending time with his grandchildren. He married Ruby Mariner on March 15, 1958. They shared over sixty years together.

Derald leaves behind his wife Ruby, children Michael (Leslie) Schoneman, Kathleen (Bob) Hubbell, Terri (Michael) Jones, Sherri Jones, Vernon Schoneman, Pamela W. Brown, and Michelle (Terry) Tippit, thirteen grandchildren, and fifteen great-grandchildren.

Derald was preceded in death by his parents, former wife Shirley, son-in-law Rick Jones, and son Derald Joseph Schoneman.

Services to celebrate Derald’s life will be 11:00 AM Thursday, February 15, 2018 in Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Young officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Wednesday, February 14, 2018 in the funeral home. Burial with military honors conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard will be in Graceland Cemetery.

  2. Uncle Wayne will be deeply missed. Wayne was the TRUE American Man. He asked nothing of anybody, but was always there to lend a helping hand. If you needed help with auto repairs, home repairs, or broken heart repairs, he was your source. Hard working God loving person. May you rest in peace. May God bless the Family.
