Barbara Helen Gordon, 83, of Decatur, Ilinois, passed away September 21, 2025, at Springfield Memorial Hospital. Barbara was born in Decatur on January 19, 1942, the daughter of Charles and Goldie Belle (Sapp) Cassidy. She marrie Read Obituary
My cousin Barbara and I had a rich childhood together. We lived on the same street in Decatur, & played together. My parents frequently would take both of us on vacations. In my adult years I moved out of state, but did return to Decatur for visits. Whenever traveling back to Decatur, Barbara and I would always get together & share our memories not only of our youth, but also our family and genealogy.I know she’s in God’s arms now, and may God bless her family. She will certainly be missed.

Loved this woman for helping me raise my son. We often joked about how it took two moms to raise our boys. Barb and I shared a trip to Branson. We had so much fun. I think all the kids have heard the story of how we went into a shop and were admiring all the Halloween clothes. Little waitress dresses, airline stewardesses, cleaning ladies. As I rounded a rack I saw on the shelves of sexual objects and realized it was not a shop for Halloween. Maybe that is why it was called The Red Garter. I went to grab Barb and told her what it was and she 😮. We proceeded to walk out of the shop and the lady behind the counter says, it takes all kinds. We giggled all the way back to our hotel. Even after we got in bed we got the giggles and said we will never tell our kids what we had done. The shop is still there. Every time I go by it when in Branson I think of Barb and giggle. Will miss our talks Barb. And am so glad you are with my son, now. Thank you for the memories.
Aunt Barb loved life, family and friends. I remember when she and Uncle Sonny came to visit us when we lived in NC and IN and RI. We toured different mansions and she was so happy and excited about seeing them. When they visited us in NC, we stopped and picked up some shrimp and fish for dinner. Asked her if she wanted to help clean the shrimp she said “no, no, no” after she looked at them cause they were looking back at her. I laughed so hard at her reaction. I loved having them visit me when they could. Also when Uncle Sonny got their RV stuck in the mud when they were leaving after a visit in Indiana. She was so mad she was ready to do harm to Uncle. I had to keep her in the house until a neighbor came over to pull him out of the mud with a tractor.
Always a good time with both of them.
