Barbara Helen Gordon's Obituary
Barbara Helen Gordon, 83, of Decatur, Ilinois, passed away September 21, 2025, at Springfield Memorial Hospital.
Barbara was born in Decatur on January 19, 1942, the daughter of Charles and Goldie Belle (Sapp) Cassidy. She married Robert Gordon on November 3, 1965, in Decatur. He preceded her in death in 2021.
Barbara was a kind, caring, woman who dearly loved her family. She was a mother to many. She welcomed everyone into her home and into her heart. She kept herself very busy making sure everyone was taken care of, especially her children and grandchildren. She would do anything for anyone in an instant and always wanted the best for everyone she loved. She attended the Salvation Army when she could. She was greatly loved and will be missed by all who knew her.
Barbara is survived by her daughter Barbara “Bobbie Jo” Purdeu of Decatur; grandchildren Cassidy (Rick Nutter) Gordon, Andrew Gordon, Danielle (Edmund) Turudic, Jordan Purdeu, and Jenna Purdeu; sister-in-law Nancy Cassidy; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son Robert Gordon II; brothers Charles Cassidy and Robert Cassidy; and sister Viola Fuqua.
Visitation for Barbara will be from 5pm to 7pm on Thursday, September 25, at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10am on Friday, September 26, also at the funeral home. Entombment in Graceland Cemetery will follow the service.
