I just wanted to send my condolences to your family, let you know you are in my thoughts, and share some stories about Beulah. I am a nursing student at Mennonite College of Nursing at ISU and Beulah was one of my very first patients that I had the honor of taking care of.Beulah had such spirit to her! I will never forget trying to dress her one morning and she fought me the whole time, pinching me, and saying she was cold and tired!!! But once I got her to breakfast and fed her she was wide awake, with her beautiful bright blue eyes, and wanting to talk. I remember that breakfast we had such a nice talk about the weather, animals, her children, and she told me I was going to make a great nurse, which meant the world to me being a nursing student. I fed her every Monday morning and afternoon and I enjoyed every minute of it. One of my fondest memories was when she would often ask me to hold my hands out, she would lay her head in my hands (since my hands were warm), and would take a nap! I loved that!Beulah also had the stongest legs I had ever seen on someone her age! She used to make me laugh becuase she could literally rock in her wheelchair and there were a few times wheeling her down to the dining room that she put the breaks on me….. with her legs!! It was just amazing and always used to make me smile!I went to visit her a few times after we were done with our clinical site at Heritage and I was planning on visiting in three weeks when this semester was done, so naturally this news came as a shock to me. But, I am truly sorry for your loss and know that she will be missed. I wanted her family to know that she had a great impact on my nursing careering and is one of the reasons I have choosen to go into geriatric nursing.
