DECATUR- Bill M. Rubottom, 82 of Decatur, passed away at 5:40 pm Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at Decatur Memorial Hospital with his family at his side.
Services to celebrate Bill’s life will be held at 10 am Monday, April 27, 2009 in the LIFE Foursquare Church, conducted by Pastor David Catron. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 Sunday afternoon at the Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Interment with Military Rites by the Macon County Honor Guard will be at 2 pm Monday in Camp Butler National Cemetery, Riverton. Memorials are suggested to LIFE Foursquare Church. Bill was born on October 24, 1926 in Davenport, OK., a son of Ira Monroe and Ethel Lucille (Hawkins) Rubottom. He served his country proudly in the Army during WW II. Bill married Hettie P. Gills on April 29, 1948. He was a member of LIFE Foursquare Church and a former member of Tabernacle Baptist Church. Bill worked for McDonald Aircraft, National Life Insurance Company and had been a circulation manager with the Herald and Review Newspaper for forty years. Even in retirement he continued to help out at the paper, as well as Imboden Creek Gardens Retirement Center. Bill was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed traveling and going on mission trips to help those less fortunate.
He was a solid foundation for his family and an outgoing source of fun and joy for his grandkids. Bill never met a stranger, only “new” friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him and loved him.
Surviving are his wife of over 60 years, Hettie, children: Beth King of Tulsa, OK., Bill and wife Hebby Rubottom of Fayetteville, AR., Glen and wife Kathy Rubottom of Helena, MT, and Mary and husband Tom Pressley of Mt. Zion, brother: Ira Patrick Rubottom of Chicago, IL., grandchildren: Jimmy, Michael, Daniel, Serena, Nicole, Ben, Shelby, Abby, Libby and Clay, six great grandchildren and nephews: Rob, Michael and niece: Patricia.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, sister: Betty Behm and grandson: Adam King.
