Charles E. "Chuck" Streaty's Obituary
Charles E. “Chuck” Streaty Jr., 80, of Decatur, passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2016 in Decatur Memorial Hospital after a long battle with Myelodysplastic Syndrome and Leukemia.
Chuck was born February 18, 1936 in Kokomo, IN, the son of Charles E. and Lorraine (Brooks) Streaty Sr. He graduated from Kokomo High School in 1952. He took night classes at a branch of Indiana University while working full-time. In 1956, he transferred to Indiana University in Bloomington, IN, where he majored in Chemistry. He finished his Degree requirements at Butler University in Indianapolis, IN the fall of 1958.
Chuck was drafted into the U.S. Army in January of 1959. He proudly served his country as a member of the 2nd Armored Division at Fort Hood, TX. Where he was an instructor in Chemical Warfare (CBR) He was honorably discharged in 1961.
After being discharged, Chuck worked briefly at Reilly Tar & Chemical in Indianapolis, IN. In 1962, he was hired by A.E. Staley Manufacturing to work in research. He retired from A.E. Staley Manufacturing (Tate & Lyle) in 1995 as a Senior Research Chemist.
Chuck married Harriett Williamson McCutcheon in 1975. They were married for 40 wonderful years before Harriett died on February 28, 2016.They were members of Ss. James & Patrick Parish.
Chuck was an avid recreational sportsman. He enjoyed softball, bowling, and golf. In 1971, he won scratch singles at the Eldorado Bowl Tournament. He was a die-hard Cubs fan.

Surviving are his son, Sean Streaty (Amy) of Decatur; grandchildren, Ashley and Brandon; and one brother, Richard Streaty of Washington D.C.
Funeral Liturgy to celebrate Chuck’s life will be 1 PM Monday, April 25, 2016 in Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home with Rev. John Burnette presiding. Private burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Cancer Care Specialists of Central Illinois.
