Christian J. Long's Obituary
Christian “Chris” J. Long, 52, of Decatur, IL passed away, June 29, 2019 peacefully at Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Chris was born September 4, 1966, in Flint, Michigan, the son of James and Priscilla (Prior) Long. He married Shelly Vreeland on August 4, 1990 in Holly, Michigan.
Chris earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Alma College, where he studied French and business. He was employed with the Boy Scouts of America as a Scout Executive for Lincoln Trails Council, proudly serving the organization for 30 years. He became an Eagle Scout during 1984 and was a Vigil Member of the Order of the Arrow. He enjoyed gaming, collecting fountain pens and shooting sporting clays. He was a Billet Dad with the Blaze Hockey organization, sponsoring boys from all over the world.
Chris was bigger than life. He was a loving husband, Dad and a friend to many. He always had a word of encouragement and a quick wit, to help lift up others.
Surviving are his wife Shelly; son, Matthew of Decatur, IL; mother, Priscilla Long; and sisters, Jennifer Mullennix of Maryland and Stacey Vecsei of Fenton, MI; and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Matthew and Sharon Vreeland.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Long.
Chris’ memorial will be in the Decatur Civic Center upper lobby on August 17 from 1-3.
