Daniel L. Wiggins' Obituary
Decatur-Daniel L. Wiggins, 64, of Decatur, passed away at 9:48 p.m. Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at St. Mary’s Hospital with his family by his side.
Services to celebrate Daniel's life will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 22, 2010 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home, with Pastor Nick Hardin officiating. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday, May 21, 2010 at the funeral home. Interment with 'Flight Home' Ceremony will be in Macon County Memorial Park. Daniel was born September 19, 1945 in Decatur, the son of Wendell and Dorothy (Fritz) Wiggins. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict. He worked as a machine operator at Caterpillar retiring after thirty-two years of service. He was a Master Mason, served as an EMT and volunteer firefighter with the Long Creek Fire Department for over ten years, and member of the Bassmasters. He enjoyed fishing and being retired. He was always lending a helping hand and never met a stranger. Daniel was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He married Ilene Holbert May 15, 1982.
He leaves behind his wife Ilene, son; James Wiggins and wife Lindsey of Kingsport, Tennessee, daughter; Michelle Merklinger and husband Will of Cocoa, Florida, sister; Sandra Wright and husband Lynn of Decatur, and grandchildren; Stormie, Haelee, Drake, Brock, Dominic, Tadd, and one on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson; Bryce.
