David "Dave" William Sapp's Obituary
David “Dave” William Sapp, 74, of Warrensburg, IL, passed away at 2:19 A.M. on Wednesday (01-14-2026) at Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Dave was born on August 19, 1951, in Decatur, IL, the son of Donald William Sapp and Wilma Joan (Wyant) Sapp. He married Karyn Leigh Wilson on October 4, 1974, in Decatur, IL.
Dave served his country in the United States Air Force during Vietnam. He served as County Board Chairman, was the County Auditor for several years and a very strong Democrat. Dave was a big history buff, especially about the Civil War. He was a member of the Civil War Round Table, Stephen Decatur Masonic Lodge #979 in Warrensburg, IL, avid reader and a die-hard St. Louis Cardinals fan and Chicago Bears fan. He especially was a very good husband, grandpa and dad to his family.
He is survived by his wife Karyn of Decatur, IL, of almost 52 years of marriage; children: Joshua Sapp and wife Mary; Donald William Sapp, and Ginny Dunker and husband Matt, all of Decatur, IL; 6 grandchildren: Kayli Grider and husband David, Emily Greene, Madison Sapp, Jackson Sapp, Lydia Dunker, and Liam Dunker; one great-grandchild Harlow Greene; and 2 brothers: Bob Sapp and wife Janet of Maroa, IL, Steve Sapp of Milmine, IL.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Donna Keathley.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
