So sorry to hear of David's passing on. Thank you Martha, for letting us know. Lots of crazy good memories from Millikin. David was never afraid to try anything. I remember teaching him to water ski and going out into the country so he could drive his old Ford himself. I am sure he touched so many people in his amazing way of sharing his joy for life. Rest in peace my friend.
Dear Martha and family,We were so sorry to hear of David's passing. He really fought long and hard, and you were by his side all the way. He was truly a remarkable man in so many ways. I still remember reading all those Westerns on tape for his winter term class at Millikin one year. May God grant you and your family peace at this difficult time and in the days to come.Elaine Chapman and Dennis Backstrom
I am truly saddened to hear of David's passing. We had MANY memorable times together at Millikin – many I can't repeat here. We laughed together, we cried together. He was truly one-of-a-kind. What's even more sad, we hadn't seen each other since we graduated in 1973, and we were only miles apart.Good-bye, my friend.Peter Churukian
We shared many good times. David and I became friends in 7th grade at Woodrow Wilson JHS – Mr. Paul's Homeroom. Our friendship has lasted over all these years – playing cards and smoking cigars on your front porch when we were teenagers, driving the beater to Houston, mapping the WIU campus in braille, trips to Colorado and Florida, marriage to Martha, chasing trains in the West End, Martha's famous pizza, several U-Haul moves (I thought I would have to have my toes amputated after the U-Haul trip to Des Moines in January with no heat) and let's not forget the 21 shrimp.Later on David, you were always dedicated to maintaining the friendship and trying to keep the lines of communication open. I regret I was not so good at that. I always thought there would be time later. Alas, time has run out.So long, my good friend. I know you are in a better place. I love you and I will miss you.
