David Alan Spence's Obituary
David Alan Spence of Decatur passed away on August 14,2019, following a lengthy, courageous battle with cancer. David was born on September 27, 1954 son of Theodore (Ted) and Phyllis (June Jimerson) Spence
David was a graduate of the University of Illinois and Southern Illinois School of Law. He devoted most of his career to criminal prosecution and was widely respected for his legal knowledge and pursuit of justice within the criminal justice system. He loved anything involving the University of Illinois and was an avid Illini basketball & football fan. He was so proud that both of his daughters graduated from his alma mater, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
David is survived by his two beloved daughters, Rachel “Rache” Spence of Chicago, IL. and Olivia “Livi” Spence of Decatur. His girls were his pride and joy. He is also survived by his brother, best friend, and dedicated care-giver Steven (Kathy) Spence of Decatur, IL and their daughters Jacquelyn and Kaitlyn, sister Sheri Rowand of Atlanta, Georgia, and Jim Spence of Decatur, IL and his sons Tim and Teddy.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Jon Laverty and Richard Spence.
Special thanks to all who helped care for David, especially Steve and Stacy, and a big thank you to the McLean County State’s Attorney’s Office for their support & assistance to David throughout his illness.
Graveside services will be at 1:00 pm Saturday, August 24, 2019 in Graceland Cemtery, Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home.
