Donald B. Hampton's Obituary
Donald B. Hampton, 86, of Decatur, passed away Thursday, April 10, 2014 in his home.
Donald was born July 28, 1927 in Hartford, IL, the son of Isaac Monroe and Bessie (Blanton) Hampton. He proudly served his country in the South Pacific during WWII for the United States Navy. He was a gunner on the USS Benjamin Holt. He retired from Firestone after working there for 20 years. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, and a member of the Macon County Honor Guard. In his spare time, he loved working in his garden and fishing. He married Mary Walton on June 29, 1957 in Decatur, IL. They shared 56 wonderful years together.
Donald leaves behind his wife, Mary, and his son, Stephen (Kelly) Hampton of Southern Illinois.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and three sisters.
Services to celebrate Donald’s life will be 1 p.m. Monday, April 14, 2014 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Macon County Memorial Park with military rites conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard. Memorials in memory of Donald may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or to the Macon County Honor Guard.
The family will like to give special thanks to Dr. Totel and his staff for all the years of support and care that they have given Donald.
