Doris M. Kinney's Obituary
DECATUR — Doris Kinney, 83, of Decatur passed away on Tuesday (March 22, 2016) in Hickory Point Christian Village.
Doris was born Feb. 28, 1933, in Pana, Ill., to Louis and Hazel (Luzader) Michelman. Mrs. Kinney retired from the Decatur Herald and Review after nearly 40 years of service, and did volunteer work after retirement for many organizations including the Macon County History Museum, Rock Springs Environmental Center and the Macon County Conservation District. She traveled the world, doing everything from riding camels in Egypt to looking for polar bears in Canada and walking on the Great Wall of China.
She is survived by her sons, Michael W. (Mary) Kinney and David L. Kinney, both of Decatur; brother, Ronald (Barb) Michelman of Racine, Wis.; sister, Norma Arnold of Decatur; three grandchildren, Sarah (Joe) Hackert, Joseph Kinney (Samantha Nash) and Emily Kinney; great-grandchildren, Nolan Kinney, Camden Kinney and Elise Hackert; and her faithful feline companion, Smudge.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
In the end, Alzheimer’s robbed her of many wonderful memories.
Her family would like to thank the staff of the Decatur Memorial Hospital 5100, Lincolnshire Memory Care and Hickory Point Christian Village for their loving and attentive care. We would also like to thank Dr. William Franklin and especially Dr. Gregory Totel for his counsel, understanding and compassion.
Graveside services to celebrate Doris’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 2, 2016, in North Fork Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association or Elwin United Methodist Church.
The family of Doris Kinney is being served by the Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home, 2091 N. Oakland Ave. Decatur, IL. Please view the online obituary, send condolences and share memories at www.gracelandfairlawn.com.
